slip it under a jersey dress

Jersey is such a versatile fabric, and it feels so good against the skin. Although, it’s not always the best fabric for hiding imperfections. It tends to show all the lumps and bumps, even on the skinny girls. We have the solution! Wear a slip. Slips have been considered old fashioned for awhile, and few women wear them anymore. It’s something that should be revisited, because they do their job really well. They serve as a barrier between your skin and the dress, creating smooth lines. So, before you run out and buy a body-shaping spandex girdle ( which is all the rage right now) try a slip. It’s a lot sexier than a girdle and much more comfortable. Unless, of course, you enjoy feeling like you’re wearing a sausage casing. I’m curious, how many of you wear slips these days? How many of you wear body shapers?

I always wear slips under my dresses/skirts if they are unlined. It stops them from sticking to my tights! I'm not into bodyshapers, though, except control top hose.
    • So true! I'm not into shaper either, but I like control top tights b/c then they don't fall down.

I wear both slips and body shapers. I do wear vintage clothes a good deal and a vintage dress, to look good, needs both. Still, even when I'm not wearing vintage, I wear at least Spanx with all skirts and dresses, and something more like an old-fashioned girdle for dress up. I don't feel like a sausage. I make sure that the shaper is reasonably comfortable and I feel mentally comfortable if the shaper is effective. I also think that there's nothing unsexy about them if they make me feel pretty and confident in my clothes. And many slips are genuinely lovely. Bring back the old-fashioned lingerie, I say. They're not old-lady-like. They're ladylike.

I always thought slips were old lady wear, but in the past year jersey dresses have become work-wear for me, and I've become a slip-lover. Can't wear a cotton / jersey dress without one!
    • I know - when I realized it was the solution I felt like I had found gold in the backyard!

Could not live without slips, totally essential to the wardrobe. Actually buying too many....same as scarves - you can never have too many!
