When I think of Jackie O, I immediately think of her style and elegance. It’s actually a shame, because there was much more to Jackie O than that. Although, I think she projected the many facets of her personalty through fashion. She used fashion as a tool to make her own style, she took risks, and made statements. That is what Style Icons are made of.

my favorite style

One of my favorite ‘Jackie O’ looks is her Classic American style. The type of outfit she would wear in Martha’s Vineyard while spending time with her children. Easy going, comfortable, beachy, yet perfectly pulled together. A casual pair of Chino’s, a round neck tee, a pair of Jack Rogers, and her signature sunglasses. It seems simple – right? So why do so many people get it wrong? I think it’s because they don’t keep it as simple and classic as she did. Stick to classic colors like Navy, white, tan, and red. The chinos should fit properly.

not too tight

They shouldn’t be too tight or too slouchy. They should be pressed, but not starched. The tee should be fitted, not super tight or baggy.

It should be a solid color. Leave the ultra designer bag at home, grab a canvas boat bag instead. Jewelry should be simple.

A pair of diamond studs (real or fake), and a gold bracelet. The outfit becomes less about the pieces, and more about how you wear it, work it, walk it.

Steal

The classic trench is available at all price points. You can get the look and versatility without having to spend big bucks. Old Navy has a nice double-breasted trench for under $50. Pair your trench with Kamik rain boots for under $80, and a chloe inspired bag for under $50. Not bad!

Where was Rosie Pope Maternity when I was pregnant? What I would have given to have been able to wear beautiful clothing at the most figure challenging time of my life. In my opinion, it took the fashion world way too long to realize that women wanted to look as good pregnant as they did when they weren’t. Rosie Pope is up to the challenge. In fact, she has taken the business of Maternity to a whole new level. When you visit one of the stores, you are pampered in every way. You can sip on a Mocktail and eat chocolates while you browse the Ready To Wear Collection. You will also have access to The Salon Collection, which allows you to design your own dress. It’s as easy as: 1) Choose a style; 2) Choose a color; 3) Choose a size and customize (alter neck line, length etc.to make it unique to the customer). You can even have a Couture dress made, which is a celebrity favorite. There is complimentary tailoring, a complimentary car service, as well as a complimentary consultation with Rosie. WOW! Add a fresh touch to an already existing casual outfit. The best part is you can add lace gloves for usually under $20. You can wear this outfit shopping with the ladies, out to do errands, or anytime in the big city.

Remember going to a formal in high-school? You probably wore some version of a strapless taffeta number with satin pumps that were dyed to match your dress. Your date brought you a corsage, which you were hoping was for your wrist so it didn’t interfere with the look of your dress. Inevitably, the dance was a bore and you couldn’t wait to go the after-party. High-school parties were usually in someone’s basement or in the middle of an obscure field. Which usually meant it was going to be cold! The best part of the night was when your date noticed you shivering, took off his jacket and put it on your shoulders. SWOON!
That’s basically the feeling you want to recreate, but in a more sophisticated way. The Boyfriend jacket is not fitted, it hangs longer, and more loosely. Balance it out with more fitted pieces underneath.

Timeless elegance and sophistication. Shanghai Tang is east meets west. It’s a brand that has gone from traditional Chinese apparel to a contemporary blend. It’s modern, chic, and luxurious. When I slip into one their dresses I feel sexy, sensual, and mysterious. Who could ask for more? The silk jackets feel beautiful and have the power to elevate a simple pair of jeans. It”s worth a look – if you’re ever near one of the stores.

Accessories are a great way to punch up a basic look. Celebrities like Isla Fisher, Drew Barrymore, and Hilary Duff are embracing statement necklaces from Fiona Paxton. Some may consider Fiona a new comer, but she’s been behind the scenes for awhile. She’s worked for designers like Armani, Moschino, and Chloe. Needless to say, she knows what she’s doing! I’m thinking I would buy the silver, because it’s more versatile. Although all the necklaces are trés cool. It’s a fresh, new look. Grab one quickly, they sell out fast.
