Designers always show us new and innovative ways to construct a bathing suit. We saw Cut-outs, one shoulder, and strappy detail. The strappy/bondage bikini is reserved for the hard body. It will draw attention to your body at all angles. The ‘cut-out’ works well for women who want to look modern, but have more coverage than a bikini.

Let the sun shine in. We also saw bright sunny colors, and beautiful detail in the fabric construction.

One shoulder has been a huge trend the past couple of seasons, and we will continue to see it into the summer. A one-shoulder one piece is pure elegance and sophistication. It’s a fresh take on the one – piece. It’s updated, modern, and current.

People have waited with baited breath to see what the First Lady would wear, and now we know. She wore a one shoulder dress by Jason Wu. I think Michelle Obama has great style, and looks lovely in whatever she picks. Congratulations to the Obama’s! If you liked her dress, we found one that has a similar feel. Enjoy!

Tie dye or Acid wash – whatever you want to call it, I’m not in love with this trend. What do you think? Is it something the young girls are embracing as a nod to 80’s? If so, what are you wearing it with to make it work today? It’s not the “most” horrible thing I’ve seen, but I’m surprised we’re revisiting it after so many years. So Girls… educate me – what do you like about this trend?

Walking to the pool should look as good as when you get there. The Rachel Pally maxi dress is the perfect resort piece. You can wear it as a cover-up, to lunch, and even onto shopping. The bathing suit is cut to accentuate your waist. The knot detail draws the eye in, and creates a lovely silhouette. Pair it with a Mod pair of sandals, silver with pink detail adds sparkle. Some people shy away from metallics, but they can bring light to an outfit – when done properly. The Miss Marc tote is sheer fun, is youthful, and ties the outfit together. It’s such a relief when you pack pieces that can work in situations throughout the vacation. Now, slap a little self-tanner on your pasty legs, and you’ll be ready to go!

It’s the flush in your cheeks, the sparkle in your eye, and the flutter in your heart that reveals the rarity of true love. Pink plays well with passion. It’s feminine and flirty, with warmth that will make you glow. It’s not just any pink though. It’s a burnt pink. A pink that’s not as bright as fuschia, and not quite as heated as hot-pink. It’s subtle, alluring, and practically made to intrigue. Pull it out before Valentine’s day, if you want to secure a date. Or wear it to make your honey’s pupils grow to the size of quarters when you walk in on Valentine’s day. I know, it sounds manipulative – but it’s much more enticing and less obvious than lingerie. Although, it’s a double whammy if you wear lingerie underneath it. That’s almost unfair to the poor guy … he’ll be babbling.

Look 3: flash forward. Search the sales for items that you can wear in the coming season. A cover-up, bathing suit, and beach tote are good investments. If you can get them for a deal – go for it! The swimsuit pieces are both under $10, the Cover-up is under $50, and the tote is under $250.

Summer sale pieces in this observation:

Kate Winslet was a big winner last night at the Golden Globes. Her dress was simple, but really elegant. We’ve shown you a couple of dresses that can give you nearly the same look – for a lot less. The long Nicole Miller dress is $420. The short ABS dress is $300. A long dress is perfect for a formal event. Or wear a short version, to a cocktail party. Belt the dress with a simple patent belt, or attach a diamond pin to your waist. That will accentuate your waist, and look a little more refined. Kate left her neck bare, but wore diamond dangling earrings. Gorgeous!
